Questions regarding the operation of the FlashAir™ card and digital camera.

Question :
How do I set the connection ( security ) settings of the FlashAir™ card with a compatible Olympus camera and a smartphone?

Answer:
Before connecting the FlashAir™ card and a smartphone for the first time, set the connection (security) settings.
For information on how to set up the connection ( security ) settings on a smartphone or computer, refer to the FlashAir™ instruction manual or the following web pages:
Wireless LAN SDHC Card "FlashAir™" manual ( Toshiba corporation )
Wireless LAN SDHC Card "FlashAir™" Setup Software Download ( Toshiba corporation )

If you have set the connection settings of the FlashAir™ card for the camera from a smartphone, activate the settings by turning the camera OFF and ON. Then, re-connect the card from the smartphone.

Why is the connection (security) settings necessary:
When a default FlashAir™ card is inserted on a SDHC card compatible device and you turn it on, the wireless LAN function will run automatically. You should set a connection password from the smartphone immediately to prevent unauthorized users from accessing your FlashAir™ card. The default password for all FlashAir™ cards is the same. When you use the card without the password setting, your images may be viewed or the FlashAir™ settings may be configured by a third person.

For security reason, the wireless LAN function will turn off if you do not connect to the FlashAir™ within 5 minutes after the digital camera is turned on. Activate the function by turning the camera OFF and ON.

Question :
The wireless LAN icon is displayed as usable on the monitor of the camera, but the FlashAir™ card is not detected on the smartphone. What should I do?

Answer:
Make sure the wireless LAN setting has been completed on the smartphone and shows the setting as ON. Also, please be aware that the connection could take about 30 seconds. Even if the wireless LAN usable icon ( see image below ) is displayed on the camera, the card may not be detected on the smartphone.

Wireless LAN is usable

It is also possible that a lot of people around you have connected to the wireless LAN. Try the connection away from such places.

Question :
How does the FlashAir™ card affect camera battery consumption?

Answer:
The battery of the camera is used while the FlashAir™ is connected to the wireless LAN.
You can reduce the battery consumption by breaking the connection when not in use through adjusting the connection settings on your camera.

Question :
Why can't I format the FlashAir™ card on the camera?

Answer:
The FlashAir™ card saves files that are necessary for wireless LAN communication. If the FlashAir™ card is formatted on the camera, the wireless LAN communication becomes unavailable. For deleting the image files on the card, use All-frame erase or Single-frame erase or erase the selected frame ( s ).

Note:
The image file on the wireless LAN start-up screen will not be erased from the FlashAir™ compatible digital camera even if you run All-frame erase.

Question :
After deleting file FA000001.JPG that was saved in the FlashAir™ card, the wireless LAN function became unavailable. What should I do?

Answer:
File FA000001.JPG, that is saved in the 100_TSB FlashAir™ folder, is required for wireless LAN connection. This file cannot be deleted on FlashAir™ compatible digital cameras.

- When there is some sort of error in the FlashAir settings.
Please confirm the FlashAir settings from the setup software ( setting tool ) on your computer.
- When the write-protection switch of the Flashair is on.

Question :
How do I use a formatted FlashAir™ card on a digital camera that is not compatible with FlashAir™ cards?

Answer:
On digital cameras that are not compatible with FlashAir™ cards, the wireless LAN function cannot be set to ON/OFF from the menu setting.
The wireless LAN function can be set to ON if you display the wireless LAN start-up image file FA000001.JPG in playback mode on your digital camera and cancel its file protection.

This mark will be displayed when the FA000001.JPG file is protected (wireless LAN is OFF).

If the file protection of the FA000001.JPG file is already canceled in playback ( when the power is ON ), you can set the wireless LAN function to ON by setting and re-canceling the file protection.
For setting the wireless LAN function to OFF, set the file protection of the FA000001.JPG file.

Question :
After formatting the FlashAir™ card on the computer or other digital cameras, the wireless LAN function became unavailable. What should I do?

Answer:
Restore the FlashAir™ to the factory default setting. You can download the FlashAir™ configuration software ( for computers ) from the Toshiba web page. Start the software and reset the card in Format the Card menu.
